I don’t watch too much television, but …

I’ve accidentally discovered another television show I like: Ninja Warrior. It’s normally on at midnight on Tuesdays, but a block of shows was broadcast Sunday afternoon after the CES coverage ended.

It kind of reminds me of American Gladiators, but there are no opponents to get past; it’s all a test of physical capability. I know I’d get nowhere if I tried it – with 100 competitors per year, fewer than 200 have made it past the first stage in 17 years, and I don’t think I have any delusions about my own physical talents, but I’d love to try the course.

Sounds like fun. I want to try.

Yeah. One of my regrets is that, when I go back for homecoming weekend (which I try to do every 5 years, although I missed the 30th), I can’t run the Academy’s obstacle course. I think I used to believe that it was fun, but that may just be a bad memory for bad memories.

I think that it’s only with time and perspective that we realize what were the best and most important parts of our lives. It’s that at some point we learn to appreciate the person that we were, but it’s hard as hell to come to grips with the person that we are.

I look back on my life and think that some of the things that I hated at the time are the things that I most miss in my life. Hard to reconcile.
