Technically, the night of the 24th into the 25th for the escape from camp itself.<\/p>\n<p>I have, of course, seen <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0057115\/\">the movie<\/a> several times. I&#8217;ll watch it any time I come across it. I don&#8217;t remember if I read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/The-Great-Escape-Paul-Brickhill\/dp\/0393325792\/\">the book<\/a> before or after I&#8217;d seen the movie the first time.<\/p>\n<p>A very good story, in either form. If you&#8217;re not familiar with the story, the movie is probably more accessible. The book is more in-depth, and more accurate &#8211; there are differences.
