{"id":287,"date":"2007-10-22T11:58:28","date_gmt":"2007-10-22T17:58:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bendreth.com\/?p=287"},"modified":"2007-10-22T13:01:56","modified_gmt":"2007-10-22T19:01:56","slug":"287","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bendreth.com\/?p=287","title":{"rendered":"How can they not know this stuff?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I took <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americancivicliteracy.org\/resources\/quiz.aspx\">this civics test<\/a>, and got the following result:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>You answered 56 out of 60 correctly \u0097 93.33 %<br \/>\nAverage score for this quiz during October: 70.5%<br \/>\nAverage score since September 18, 2007: 70.5%\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While I&#8217;m disappointed that I didn&#8217;t score higher (two of my four missed answers bother me significantly more than the other two), the fact that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americancivicliteracy.org\/report\/tables.html\">the school whose seniors placed highest only scored 69.56%<\/a> is horrifying. In the breakdown of individual questions, you find that the question that received the highest number of right answers (&#8220;Which of the following are the unalienable rights referred to in the Declaration of Independence?&#8221;) still had 15% wrong answers. How many might have gotten it wrong if the test were some format <em>other<\/em> than multiple-choice for each question?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bendreth.com\/?p=191\">One might get the impression that the sort of civics education I had in my childhood is no longer in vogue<\/a>.
