There is a type of performer in Japan called the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Japanese_idol\">idol singer<\/a>. There have been idols who were &#8220;merely&#8221; popular performers, idols who were corporate image representatives, and so on. They&#8217;re a long-lived enough cultural phenomenon that they&#8217;ve been reasonably common in anime, as well, with <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Minmei\">one character whose singing was sufficient to stop an interstellar war<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, they&#8217;re not even required to be real people for live performances in the real world.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"640\" height=\"385\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/DTXO7KGHtjI?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/DTXO7KGHtjI?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"640\" height=\"385\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>One has to wonder what the people in the audience actually saw &#8211; is the technology advanced enough for them to see what we can see in the video, or was this done in postprocessing?
