Hello from Santa Cruz

Friday, December 26th, 2008

That´s Santa Cruz, Galapagos, Ecuador, by the way. I´m mostly through with a trip to the Galapagos, with a bit longer in Ecuador when I´m done. Internet has been available everywhere so far, but connectivity hasn´t. We get back to Quito the day after tomorrow, and back home a few days later. The weather has been great, the trip has been pretty damn good so far, and I´ll be looking for work when I get back.

Maybe I´ll post a photo of my guinea pig dinner when I get where I can upload photos. Don´t tell anyone squeamish, but you can see the ears. More when I get back.

Time to start thinking about what to carve on the Jack O’Lantern. I’m thinking Iron Man’s helmet might be a good image, but I haven’t decided yet. I don’t have photos of all the ones I’ve done – I’m missing the one I did of Tora from the anime series Ushio to Tora, for one – but here are a couple I did for previous Halloweens:

In the ABBA shrine

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Last night, Marion and I finally got around to seeing Mamma Mia! We’d seen the Broadway show and enjoyed it, and figured the scenery of the Greek islands would be pretty nice, too.

Marion’s comment afterward was that the movie was more frenetic than the Broadway production. I agreed – the larger cast and not being limited to a stage allowed for more activity. I also said I liked the Broadway show’s disco costumes more … they were glitzier and less subdued, thus more fun. Of course, it’s hard for either of them to match up with the costumes in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, which also features the music of ABBA.

And, speaking of ABBA, and bringing things around to the title of this post, in most shrines, you have worshippers. In the ABBA shrine, though …

I don’t think the advertiser was expecting it to appear quite like this, though. Check out the right-hand advertisement in the center row. (Click the photo for a larger image.)

This gave me a laugh

Maybe I’ve just been too caught up in moving, with all it entails, but I couldn’t stop laughing at this picture (grabbed from LOLcats):

… or that the rate of posting is expected to change much, but I’ll be attending the WorldCon for the next few days. Probably not very heavily, though … I really want to get into my new house.
